About
An operator who builds the machine.
Reevance exists because of something I kept noticing while running my own businesses: the tools were never the problem.
Owners everywhere had bought AI, subscribed to apps, hired the odd freelancer — and changed almost nothing about how the work actually moved. The bottleneck wasn’t technology. It was that no one had stepped back, looked at the whole machine, and rebuilt how it runs.
That’s the job I’ve done, in one form or another, my whole career.
The short version
I’ve spent two decades being the whole operation.
I’m Martin Hills. I’ve spent more than twenty years as the person who runs the whole operation — across marine, property, retail, fashion and child-development businesses. Not from a spreadsheet: hands-on.
I’ve done the marketing and the sales, managed the teams, developed and built the property as site manager with my own trades, worked alongside engineers on sign-off, designed the IT and network layouts, run the finances and the legals, and turned a business around from the ground up when the ground moved.
Reevance is all of that, pointed at one job: building the systems that let a business — and its people — run at a high level, continuously.
The through-line
Trained as a marketer. Everything technical, self-taught — because the business needed it.
- I trained as a marketer — a Bachelor of Commerce at Bond University, majoring in Marketing and Management. Everything technical after that, I taught myself, because the businesses I ran needed it and I’m not the type to wait for permission.
- I started on superyachts in the Mediterranean, working up from deckhand to first mate — my first taste of demanding, high-end clients who expect things done properly.
- Back in Australia I started and ran my own businesses: an import and wholesale venture, a clothing production company, and a high-end fashion store in Mosman built on a model no one else was running.
- I ran the family’s premium marine and superyacht equipment company, and eventually the whole organisation.
- When the family built the Child Development Institute, I headed property, engineering sign-off, IT and network design, finance and legals — often at the same time — and personally site-managed the builds.
- In 2025 I rebuilt that business from the ground up through a forced pivot: consolidated three sites into one, retained the property assets, and found a buyer — completing the turnaround in 2026.
- Today I head the superyacht and international department I proposed and built at a leading Australian brokerage, acquiring vessels for clients around the world.
The point isn’t the list. It’s that I’ve had to be every part of a business — and I learned that the ones that run well aren’t the ones with the most tools. They’re the ones with the right systems.
Where AI came in
I built it for my own businesses first.
When capable AI arrived, I could see the shift early, so I taught myself to build with it — and I built for my own businesses first. An entire operations layer: capture, research, reporting, follow-ups, dashboards, the lot.
Then something clicked. The system I built for the brokerage dropped almost unchanged into the property business. Build once, use it again. That reuse is the whole idea behind Reevance — and it’s why I can do for a handful of other businesses what would normally take a whole team.
What I believe
The outcome comes first — always
I’m an operations partner who happens to be very good with AI, not an “AI agency.”
Amplify people, don’t replace them
The systems give your team throughput and their time back. Anything that matters is still signed off by a human.
Experiment in my lab, not in yours
I try new things constantly — some don’t work. That happens in my own sandbox. Only what’s proven reaches your business.
Stay and keep it running
I build the machine, then I stay to run it and make it better. Reliability is the product.
The name
Every business deserves a reeve.
Reevance is a word I made. A reeve was the old English official who ran an estate day-to-day on the owner’s behalf — the person who kept the whole operation running, a thousand years before anyone had the job title “Head of Operations.”
Add -ance, the way govern becomes governance, and you get the practice of running the operation. That’s the job. That’s Reevance.
